Songs That Have Kept Me From Throttling My Co-Workers
At work, there's always a song running through my head. This is good for me. It means I retain my sanity. (Yes, I know that's questionable.) This is better still for certain of my co-workers. It means I don't shuffle them off this mortal coil. Oh, and don't bother turning me in as a psycho killer; I'm exaggerating for dramatic emphasis.
- The Beatles - "Yellow Submarine" (Ever tried to concentrate on your internal bubbling vats of fury while humming this? It doesn't work. Lord knows I've tried.)
- Tori Amos - "The Waitress" (She wants to kill someone she works with. No parallels there ... Nooooo ...)
- Sarah McLachlan - "Building A Mystery" (*shrugs* It just helps.)
- Alanis Morissette - "Front Row" (Some of these songs really don't need parenthetical comments. I simply like them and they serve as Nice Diversions.)
- Tracy Bonham - "Mother Mother" (An all-around great venting song.)
- Dayna Manning - "Hippy Song" (Another Nice Diversion.)
- Citizen King - "Under The Influence" (Granted, there are times when I wish I were, but I'm fresh-out-of-the-shower clean, Mum. This one is here mostly for its energetic beat.)
- Shawn Colvin - "Whole New You" (This song is Prozac on a CD. I automatically get happy when I start playing it in my head.)
- Oasis - "Roll With It" (Nice Diversion.)
- New Radicals - "You Get What You Give" (Nice Diversion.)
- Semisonic - "Never You Mind" (Oddball lyrics. A Nice Diversion indeed.)
- Loreena McKennitt - "The Highwayman" (Three reasons on this one: A: It's got a lilting Celtic rhythm, which is calming. B: At ten minutes long, it's long enough that I can actually get calm. C: The two lead characters in the song are definitely having a worse time than I, given that they both die.)
- The Beatles - "Help!" (Methinks this one might be self-explanatory.)
- Joan Osborne - "Running Out Of Time" (I love this song, but I have trouble keeping the couplets in the right order. It forces me to think about the next line instead of the latest injustice.)
